There is more need than ever to look after our planet. Our resources are finite so it’s essential we find ways of being as sustainable and energy-efficient as possible, and it seems that some of the biggest brands in the world are realizing this just like the rest of us.

Renewable Energy Works & These Companies Get it!

Right now, as it stands, renewable energy accounts for 22% of the global electricity generation but this is just not enough. The expectation is that this will have tripled by 2040. So, which of the big brands are doing their bit to help this expectation become a realization and how exactly are they using renewable energy to their benefit?

Microsoft, one of the biggest tech giants, have been committed to being carbon neutral since 2013 and one of their core beliefs as a company is that being environmentally sustainable is of quintessential importance to their business practices. The company is also invested in using wind energy, recently signing 20-year agreements with wind farms.

Sony’s Austrian manufacturing plant is one of only a handful in Europe that is completely run on renewable energy and the company plans to have a zero environmental footprint by 2050.

Google have been carbon neutral since 2007 and have recently invested over $2BN in renewable energy projects, including rooftop power plants, and even owns the world’s largest corporate solar panel at their Mountain View headquarters.

Ikea is 70% of its way towards being 100% powered by renewable energy by 2020 and has committed over €1.5 billion towards investments for wind and solar energy, which includes the installment of 550,000 solar panels in 120 of their stores around the world.

Walmart operate over 335 renewable energy projects to try and continually improve their green footprint, and are about 32% of the way towards their commitment to be 100% renewable by 2020.
